Anna vs. Judith: A randomized comparison of AI-delivered psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapies for social anxiety disorder☆
Overview
This randomized controlled trial compares smartphone-delivered psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapies for social anxiety disorder, delivered via artificial intelligence to 102 adults over four weeks. The study reports moderate symptom reductions in both active groups compared to baseline, with no significant difference between the two therapeutic approaches, though AI-PDT showed superior outcomes at one-month follow-up against a waitlist control. The resource notes that co-occurring ADHD or autism spectrum disorder predicted poorer results and that a strong therapeutic alliance was maintained throughout treatment.
