Immediate Effects of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in Children with ADHD: A Pilot Resting-State fNIRS Study
Overview
This pilot study investigates the immediate effects of a single-session Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) intervention on resting-state prefrontal hemodynamic activity in children with ADHD using functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS). The research involves twenty participants who undergo fNIRS data acquisition before and after an emotion regulation-focused ACT session to compare changes in oxygenated and deoxygenated hemoglobin concentrations. Results indicate significant hemodynamic alterations, specifically increased oxygenated hemoglobin in the right lateral prefrontal cortex, which were associated with hyperactivity scores.
