The Efficacy of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapy in the Outpatient Treatment of Major Depression: A Randomized Clinical Trial
Overview
This randomized clinical trial compares the efficacy of cognitive-behavioral therapy and short-term psychodynamic supportive therapy for adults with major depressive disorder. The study evaluates post-treatment remission rates, depression scores, and one-year follow-up outcomes to determine if psychodynamic therapy is non-inferior to CBT. The findings suggest that while both therapies show similar effects on symptom reduction, time-limited treatment may be insufficient for a significant portion of patients in outpatient settings.
