Effects of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy on Impulsive Decision-Making
Overview
This study investigates the impact of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) on impulsive decision-making within a community sample of 40 adults. Participants were randomized to receive either eight individual sessions of ACT or an inactive control, with assessments conducted at pre-, mid-, and post-treatment intervals. The research measured outcomes including psychological flexibility, distress tolerance, valued living, and delay discounting using multilevel modeling. Results indicated significant improvements in psychological flexibility, distress tolerance, and problem behavior reduction for the ACT group, though no significant changes were observed in delay discounting tasks.
