Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction for Family Caregivers: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Overview
This randomized controlled trial compares Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) against a community caregiver education and support program for family caregivers of individuals with dementia. The study involved 78 predominantly non-Hispanic White women who completed surveys at baseline, post-intervention, and six months later. Results indicate that MBSR was more effective than the comparison intervention in improving overall mental health, reducing stress, and decreasing depression, while both groups showed similar improvements in anxiety and social support.
