Breaking Barriers in Student Mental Health Care With AI-Enhanced Group Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Pilot Feasibility Study
Overview
This pilot study evaluates the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy of using an LLM chatbot as adjunctive between-session support for university students undergoing group Unified Protocol therapy. The single-arm trial involved 19 participants with subclinical anxiety and depression symptoms, measuring outcomes through adherence rates, engagement metrics, and standardized symptom scales. Results indicated high retention, substantial chatbot usage, and significant improvements in generalized anxiety and well-being, alongside qualitative feedback on accessibility and personalization limits.
