Mindfulness-based stress reduction and physiological activity during acute stress: A randomized controlled trial.
Overview
This randomized controlled trial investigates the impact of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) on cardiovascular activity and cortisol levels in 88 healthy adults with elevated stress. Participants underwent laboratory stress testing before and after the intervention, revealing that the MBSR group experienced greater reductions in systolic and diastolic blood pressure compared to a waitlist control group. The study concludes that MBSR may help lower blood pressure levels and reactivity to acute stress.
