Mindfulness-based stress reduction for patients with coronary heart disease and bipolar disorder: An 8-week comparative study
Overview
This study examines mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) as an intervention for bipolar disorder within a population of patients with coronary heart disease. The research includes an observational phase comparing mood disorder prevalence and an intervention phase randomizing 34 bipolar patients to either eight weeks of MBSR or treatment as usual. Results indicate that MBSR significantly reduced anxiety and improved autonomic function compared to the control group, while cardiac function showed no significant difference.
