Exploring the longitudinal dynamics of self-criticism, self-compassion, psychological flexibility, and mental health in a three-wave study
Overview
This three-wave longitudinal study examines the relationships between self-criticism, self-compassion, psychological flexibility, and mental health among 412 participants. The research utilizes the Transactional Model of Stress and Coping to analyze how cognitive appraisal and coping strategies influence mental health outcomes over time. Results indicate that self-compassion and psychological flexibility serve as stable coping mechanisms negatively associated with self-criticism. The findings are presented as a theoretical foundation for developing interventions, such as compassion-focused therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
