Association of sleep quality and sleep duration with anxiety symptoms in older adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Overview
This systematic review and meta-analysis examines the association between sleep disturbances and anxiety symptoms in adults aged 60 and older, synthesizing data from 19 studies involving over 70,000 participants. The authors report that both poor sleep quality and short sleep duration are significantly associated with increased odds of anxiety, with poor sleep quality showing a stronger pooled association. The resource highlights substantial heterogeneity in the findings regarding sleep quality and concludes by suggesting routine sleep assessment for older adults with anxiety symptoms.
