The effectiveness of Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia on sleep EEG hyperarousal: a multicentric polysomnographic study
Overview
This multicentric study investigates how Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) affects cortical hyperarousal in patients with Chronic Insomnia Disorder, using quantitative EEG to measure the NREM delta/beta ratio. The research includes 98 participants across five centers who completed a 6-8-week CBT-I program, with assessments comparing pre- and post-treatment polysomnography data. Results indicate that CBT-I significantly increases the delta/beta ratio, suggesting reduced hyperarousal, with greater improvements observed in patients with short sleep duration compared to those with normal sleep duration.
