From Pressure to Peril: Investigating the Drivers of Suicide Planning and Attempts in University Students Struggling with Academic Anxiety
Overview
This qualitative study investigates factors contributing to suicide planning and attempts among university students experiencing academic anxiety. Through thematic analysis of interviews with eight counselors and eight students, the authors identify six core themes, including triggers linked to family stress, perceptions of campus services, and institutional barriers to care. The resource outlines student-driven recommendations for prevention, such as flexible deadlines and peer support, while emphasizing the need for reduced stigma and enhanced institutional access to mental health services.
