Explicit and implicit attachment and the outcomes of acceptance and commitment therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy for depression
Overview
This study examines how explicit and implicit attachment styles predict outcomes in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for major depressive disorder. The research assessed 67 patients to determine if baseline attachment measures or changes in attachment anxiety and avoidance influenced symptom reduction. Results indicate that explicit attachment avoidance and subsequent reductions in avoidant and anxious attachment significantly predicted better treatment outcomes, while implicit measures did not.
