Randomized Controlled Trial of Telephone-Delivered Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Chronic Insomnia
Overview
This randomized controlled trial compares the efficacy of telephone-delivered cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia against an information pamphlet control in a small sample of thirty individuals with chronic insomnia. The study measures outcomes including sleep efficiency, total sleep time, unhelpful cognitions, and daytime symptoms at pretreatment, posttreatment, and 12-week follow-up intervals. Results indicate that while both groups showed improvements in sleep metrics, the telephone therapy group demonstrated greater reductions in dysfunctional beliefs and higher rates of insomnia remission.
