Prevalence of harm in mindfulness-based stress reduction
Overview
This paper examines potential harms associated with Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) by analyzing data from 118 participants across three randomized controlled trials. The authors compare symptom changes in MBSR groups against waitlist controls to assess global psychological and physical symptoms, as well as anxiety, depression, and interpersonal discomfort. The study reports no evidence that MBSR increases harm rates relative to no treatment, suggesting it may be protective for many indices.
